Matthew commenced his career as a barrister in England and Wales practising civil, privacy and family law. In 2004, he was awarded the Pegasus Scholarship to Sydney by the Hon. Society of Inner Temple, London. Whilst Matthew principally practises in media, defamation and commercial law he also has a particular interest in international and sports law.
Matthew has represented Internet related defendants including Facebook Inc and Google Inc and appears for more traditional media outlets such as the ABC, News Ltd and Fairfax Media resisting suppression orders. Matthew frequently provides commentary in the media on issues of public interest.
